Cameron Hill has continued his perfect record of front-row qualifying performances in the 2017 Toyota 86 Racing Series, qualifying his Southern Star Truck Centre/National Capital Toyota/Anytime Fitness car second for Round 3 of the series at the Red Rooster Sydney SuperSprint today.
Hill was just 0.02s behind polesitter Ben Grice, on a day where strong winds and changing temperatures created significant car setup challenges.
Earlier in the day, Hill was fastest in both practice sessions.
Cameron says:
“We made good progress throughout practice and seemed to be heading in a reasonable direction with improvements to the car, but in qualifying the lap times were quite a bit slower.
“It’s very close at the front of the field – there’s less than 0.2s separating the top six cars so it’s shaping up to be really close racing.
“Here at Sydney Motorsport Park, one of the keys is understanding how the track conditions evolve, and adjusting the car setup accordingly.
“Today, the track conditions were particularly hard to read and hopefully they stabilise a bit more for the races, but we’re in a good position on the grid so I’m looking forward to going racing.”
Race 1 for the Toyota 86 Series will be held at 2:35 tomorrow afternoon.
