Canberra racer Cameron Hill’s perfect streak of pole positions in the 2017 Toyota 86 Racing Series has been extended, Hill qualifying his usedtrucks.sydney/National Capital Toyota/Anytime Fitness Toyota 86 fastest for Round 4 of the series at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 this morning.
Hill’s best time was 0.43s faster than his nearest rival, Jimmy Vernon, and the 20-year-old said times became quicker throughout the session.
“It’s always satisfying to qualify on pole, but to do it at Bathurst is very special,” Hill said.
“The track kept improving as the session progressed, which was different from what we’ve experienced at all the other rounds,” Hill said.
“Normally the tyres are only at their peak performance for a window of one or two laps, but today the track became faster and faster.
“On my second lap, I set a time good enough for pole at that stage and then backed off to let the tyres cool down.
“I pressed on again and was able to improve by half a second.”
The Toyota 86 Racing Series is back on track tomorrow at Mount Panorama, with Race 1 at 8:40am and Race 2 at 12:35pm – both races will be shown live on FOX Sports 506 while Race 2 will also be shown live on Channel 10.
