Cameron Hill says his team can be very pleased with the performance improvements from car and driver in the fourth round of the Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup at Hidden Valley.
While today’s results may have not reached the same level as yesterday, Hill said the weekend demonstrated the team has definitely made progress.
After his sixth-place finish yesterday, Hill again crossed the line sixth in this morning’s second race. Unfortunately, he was deemed to have transgressed during a Safety Car restart, and was relegated to 16th with a post-race penalty.
In Race 3, Hill was steadily making up positions, elevating his Southern Star Truck Centre/Anytime Fitness/Baxx Australia/Fizzical Porsche into the top 10, before his race ended when he sustained radiator damage in contact with another competitor.
“Today obviously wasn’t smooth sailing like yesterday, but once again our race pace was good,” Hill said.
“I’m still learning this category, not just in terms of my own performance but also understanding how these cars behave when they’re racing close together.
“When we had clear track, our lap times were on par with the front-runners and we need to put things in perspective – yesterday we qualified on the second row of the grid, in just our fourth round in the category, at a track where we’ve never raced before.
“We’ve identified some more areas for improvement and the good news is the next round is at Sydney Motorsport Park, a track where we have a lot of experience.
“We may have missed out on a result reflective of our performance today, but the weekend was a positive one – we’ve clearly made some gains in speed since the last round. We’re competitive against far bigger and better-resourced teams, so we can hold our heads high,” Hill concluded.
Round 5 of Carrera Cup is at Sydney Motorsport Park, 3-4 August.
