Cameron Hill has credited improved new tyre pace with his second consecutive top-five Carrera Cup qualifying result at Sydney Motorsport Park today.
Hill and his team took advantage of a healthy practice tyre bank to run sets of green Michelin control tyres in both today’s practice sessions, accumulating valuable knowledge.
“While we’ve had some tough results in the last few Carrera Cup rounds, the silver lining is that we had some very good practice tyres at our disposal,” Hill said.
“Understanding the level of grip on a brand-new set of tyres is critical for nailing a good qualifying lap, so it was very useful to run some fresh rubber in practice.
“I was able to do my personal-best lap times at SMP today, and I know there are still improvements on the table.
“I’m getting more and more comfortable with every session I do in the car; the next stage is translating our improved one-lap speed into consistent pace over a race distance,” Hill concluded.
Tomorrow’s Carrera Cup action consists of three races at 11:45am, 2:45pm and 5:55pm.
