Cameron Hill says a big Carrera Cup result is just around the corner, after securing fourth overall for Round 2 of the series with a seventh-place finish in the fourth and final race at the Australian Grand Prix today.
Hill made up a position at the start, moving up to fourth by the first corner. For several laps, he pressured third-placed Warren Luff, but was unable to find a way past. A small mistake at Turn 15 caused Hill to run wide, falling to seventh.
“I was pretty disappointed with myself after the race, because the team did a great job and gave me a car that was capable of a top three finish today,” Hill said.
“However, I need to put things into perspective, because over the course of the weekend, this is the best the car has been in the time I’ve been racing Carrera Cup.
“The team has worked tirelessly to give me a competitive package and I would have loved to reward them with a podium, but fourth overall is still an excellent result considering the calibre of the competition.
“We’re way ahead of where we were 12 months ago, or even six months ago. We can now go to racing events knowing we have genuine front-running pace.”
Hill said the four-week break before Round 3 at Phillip Island will be a good opportunity to reset and re-focus.
“It was a very tight turnaround after the previous round at Adelaide, but now we can go away, debrief and ensure we’re refreshed and invigorated for Phillip Island,” Hill concluded.
