He scored his first Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup Australia pole and race win last time out in Darwin, and now Cameron Hill is riding the wave of momentum to a track where he has achieved outstanding success in the past.

Last time Hill raced at Townsville’s Reid Park Street Circuit was in the 2017 Toyota 86 Series round; on that occasion, he claimed several series records that still stand today, including the largest pole position and race-winning margins in the history of the series.

Hill said he has fond memories of the tropical venue, but says he’s not over-confident heading into this weekend.

“I loved the Townsville track when I raced there in the Toyota 86, but driving around the track in a Porsche will be a whole different ball-game; it will be like learning the track all over again,” Hill said.

“In saying that, Carrera Cup hasn’t been to Townsville since 2015, and no one has driven there with the current cars so it will be a very level playing field; everyone will be starting pretty much from scratch.”

In addition to Hill’s breakthrough Carrera Cup performance in Darwin, his family’s CHE Racing Team also scored a 1-2 finish in the most recent Australian Formula Ford Championship. Hill said the recent success has generated a current of positive energy throughout the small, but dedicated crew.

“Everyone is very focused on ensuring we build on the success we’ve achieved lately,” he said.

“We haven’t lost sight of how hard we’ve had to work to get ourselves to this point, and when you achieve a couple of good results, it motivates everyone to work even harder.”
