Following his race win yesterday, Cameron Hill has been awarded his first overall round victory in the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Series at the Australian Grand Prix, after the remainder of the weekend’s on-track action was cancelled due to concerns surrounding the Coronavirus.
Hill said it was far from ideal circumstances in which to score his maiden Carrera Cup round win.
“When we arrived at the track this morning, the atmosphere just felt eerie; no members of the public were allowed to enter, and there was a massive cloud of uncertainty hanging over the day’s proceedings,” Hill said.
“Just after 10am, we received the news that all on-track activity was going to be cancelled, and while I was confirmed as the round winner, it was a very bittersweet feeling. Based on the speed we showed in yesterday’s opening race, I felt we could have achieved victories in the remaining three races and I would have much rather earned the round win with a complete performance across the weekend instead of just a single race.”
As a result of being the highest-placed driver in the Porsche Michelin Junior Programme for the Grand Prix weekend, Hill also scores a trip to the coveted Le Mans 24 Hour endurance race, where he will be a guest of Porsche.
The next Carrera Cup round will be held in Townsville, 26-28 June.
