Cameron Hill is set to shakedown ahead of the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Season with a run in the Production Sports Car class at Sandown in the Victorian State Series this weekend. Hill will be running his Porsche 911.2 Cup car that last competed at the eventually cancelled 2020 Australian Grand Prix.
At the Australian Grand Prix event Hill was the only race winner of the weekend after Carrera Cup completed just the one race before the weekend’s cancelation. That event in March is the last time Carrera Cup raced in Australia, leaving drivers hungry for seat time ahead of the new season.
The Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Season gets underway at Sandown on the 19th to the 21st of March, meaning this weekend’s state event serves as a perfect opportunity for pre-season testing.
“It’s been a really long wait to get back in the car, there’s been a few false starts and uncertain times but I’m just thrilled that I can get back in the seat this weekend. It’s a fantastic opportunity to ease back in and make sure the car is performing how it should and get a good look at the track before the opening Carrera Cup round,” said Hill.
Eagle eyed spectators at the event won’t be able to catch a glimpse of Hill’s 2021 livery though with the Australian Capital Territory based driver poised to reveal his car’s new look closer to round one of the Carrera Cup season.
“It’s very much what we ran in 2020, livery and all. Which isn’t a bad thing, the car had a lot of pace over the two rounds at the start of the year. I’m not going out looking to win this weekend, learning how the car handles around the track ahead of the first round will enable us to create a good baseline and make the right adjustments ahead of the first round to keep us competitive,” concluded Hill.
The Victorian State Series gets underway with round one this weekend February 19th – 21st.
