Dunlop Super2 Series rookie Cameron Hill continues to be in the frame to take the title after adding another podium last weekend at Townsville.
Hill entered the weekend fourth in the standings after achieving a maiden podium last time out in Perth, but with the two leading title contenders tangling at the start of Race 2 it elevates the rookie into second behind Triple Eight Race Engineering teammate Declan Fraser.
Welcoming new support from Big Ass Fans as well as continued backing from major partner Supaglass Industries, Hill started the weekend strongly to be third after the conclusion of practice during Friday.
Qualifying proved a tough affair as Hill dropped to seventh and as chaos ensued during the opening laps of Race 1, he avoided this to bring the Supaglass Industries Triple Eight Race Engineering VF Commodore in sixth.
Hill replicated his qualifying result from Race 1 on Sunday to be sixth for the second encounter as he narrowly avoided a start incident between three title rivals setting up a run towards the podium.
Making his move after the first safety car restart, Hill was oh so close to taking second as he just fell short on the run to the flag.
Leaving Round 3 of the Dunlop Super2 Series at Townsville, Hill is 69-points behind teammate Fraser approaching the next event at the historic Sandown Raceway in metropolitan Melbourne on August 21-23.

“It was a pretty crazy race today, but it's another podium in the Super2 Series here in Townsville,” Hill reflected.
“There was carnage at the start, which I only just missed, but that really set me up for the top three result.
“I had a good car and fought my way into third. I had a really good battle where I was briefly in second, but couldn’t quite pull the move off, so from there I consolidated a solid day in the points, which brings us to second in the series.
“All in all, a really strong weekend and hopefully more to come later in the year.”
