Repco Supercars Championship rookie Cameron Hill enjoyed a strong racing debut in Tasmania to further build on his impressive start to his first season in Australia’s top tier.
Having not raced at Symmons Plains before, it added an extra challenge for Hill after a career best qualifying and race results in Perth.
Not only was Hill preparing for his own Tasmanian debut as the CHE Racing Team he acts as mentor and manages was contesting the Australian Formula Ford Series support races with a three-car attack, but also Symmons Plains rookies.
The two-day format in the meeting allowed Hill to guide the CHE Racing Team drivers through their first day on Friday before focusing on his Supercars duties.
The rapid format of these weekends meant there was little margin for error, but the Truck Assist Racing Chevrolet Camaro proved quick out the box as Hill placed seventh at the end of qualifying for Race 10.
A strong start and avoiding incidents proved key for Hill as he rose to fourth during the early segment before an early pit stop where despite the tyres falling away, he finished a personal best eighth.
Qualifying for Races 11 and 12 cemented his spot in the top 10 as Hill scored his maiden top five result in the first segment, then replicated his seventh spot from the previous day.
Running as high as third during the early stages of Race 11, Hill continued to hold strong pace as he again pitted early in clean air until his tyres fell away during the closing stages resulting in 11th place.
Another great start from eighth had Hill remain in seventh as a pit strategy later in the race ensured Hill finished the race just outside the top 10 in 11th to finish as the clear lead rookie all weekend.
The run of strong results has allowed Hill to close the gap to the drivers inside the top 20 and provides great momentum towards the next round of the Repco Supercars Championship in Darwin on June 16-18.
Hill enjoys a solid history at Hidden Valley Raceway having won a race when Porsche Carrera Cup Australia visited there in 2019.

“We had an awesome weekend,” Hill described.
"We rolled out of the truck really strong and we just executed every time in qualifying. It’s just been a massive learning curve for me – learning the soft and the super soft tyre, learning the new formats, learning to look after tyres … There’s been a lot to soak in and every round there’s been lots of positives to take away.
”The results probably didn’t reflect where we were at and this is the first weekend where we’ve pulled it all together. I think we’re going to be more consistent towards that top 10.
"We qualified in the top 10 for all three races in Tasmania and we finished eighth in Race 11 as well as 11th twice on Sunday.
“I couldn’t quite make those tyres hold on in the races, but I really enjoyed racing up the front.
"Lots of positives and I’m really keen to head up to the warm weather in Darwin next round.”
