Consistency the key for rookie Cameron Hill in Darwin

The promising signs continued for Repco Supercars Championship rookie Cameron Hill in the Top End at Hidden Valley Raceway.

Following season best results at Symmons Plains, Hidden Valley showcased Hill’s improved race pace and tyre management as Truck Assist Racing continued its strong form.

Qualifying for Race 13 followed the same narrative as this season by being extremely close leaving Hill 16th, but only a tenth out of the top 10.

Making steady progress through the race provided a 13th place finish, beating more experienced names and just missing a top 10 result.

Sunday provided two races as Hill qualified 17th to move forward two spots made tougher when his cool suit failed. He started the next encounter from 20th only 0.375s from pole to climb four positions to end the weekend 16th.

Building experience is key for Hill this year as he is making decent strides alongside an ever improving Truck Assist Racing squad, which tasted victory in Race 15 when Jack Le Brocq converted pole to a race win.

Hill now prepares for the next event on the Repco Supercars Championship calendar on the Reid Park Street Circuit at Townsville, a hybrid permanent and temporary venue on July 7-9.

“It was a mixed weekend for me, we didn’t quite have the speed in qualifying and that left me in the battle pack, which is really hard to dig your way out,” Hill summarised.

“It was hot and the racing was hard. I’m so stoked for Jack and the whole team to achieve our first win as an operation is just unreal. Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come later this year.

“Saturday was definitely our strongest race in 13th. It was a wild one as I had been shuffled back and drove our way forward, while on Sunday we finished 15th and 16th as we moved position in each race.

“It’s so hard to dig yourself out when the competition is so close, the speed is so similar and the hot air when you’re stuck in the battle pack, it’s definitely tricky when you don’t qualify as well.”
