Cameron Hill continues to demonstrate he is a top 10 contender in the Repco Supercars Championship with further improvements at his home round in Sydney.
The Canberran showed how his qualifying form is building, despite luck deserting him in both the races.
Starting Saturday’s night race from eighth on the grid, Hill got off to a flying start, vaulting to fourth off the line, which set up a solid opening stint at the pointy end of the 200km race under lights.
Tyre life was a factor throughout the race with varying stories of degradation, before a late safety car fell at an awkward time for Car #35, just as Hill looked set to consolidate a finish on the edge of the top 10.
On the restart, Hill got hung out to dry, which allowed a freight train of cars to force their way past while he was left unable to defend, falling to 17th as a result.
In Sunday’s qualifying, Hill again demonstrated his form with an 11th place start for Race 19, ahead of teammate Jack Le Brocq.
Running ninth in the early stages, Hill’s hard work unraveled in the pit stop when a rare wheel nut problem cost him a significant amount of time.
That pushed Hill back to 24th at the chequered flag for Race 19.
The focus now turns to the OTR SuperSprint at The Bend Motorsport Park on August 18-20, however, the team will test at the South Australian circuit this week.

“It was a massive round for me being my home round with a lot of family and friends coming up from Canberra, so it was unreal to have that support,” Hill said.
“It was great to have so much support and we had a good run both days with good qualifying results, although unfortunately we didn’t get the race results we wanted due to things that were outside of our control.
“I’m super happy with the weekend and can’t thank the team enough for giving me a fast race car.”
