Twin Cams ready for big Bathurst 1000

Cam Hill will take on this week’s highly anticipated Repco Bathurst 1000 full of confidence, as he takes part in the great race for the second time as a full-time driver.

Last year’s Bathurst debut as a main driver saw Hill secure 15th overall alongside Jaylyn Robotham despite the pair having significant clutch troubles throughout the entire 161-lap race.

However this year, Hill enters the Bathurst 1000 with another full season as a main driver under his belt and an impressive run of good results in the second half of this season that has resulted in a rapid climb up the standings.

His turnaround was highlighted by last month’s remarkable 10th place at the Penrite Oil Sundown 500, where he and new co-driver Cameron Crick guided the #4 SP Tools Chevrolet Camaro up the order into the top 10, having occupied last place early on in the race.

The Sandown event proved a major learning curve for the whole Supercars grid with an abundance of Safety Car interventions and the newly introduced Full Course Yellows proving a challenge for many of the crews.

For Hill and Crick though, the event showcased the pair’s ability to overcome adversity together and produce good stints and strategy under pressure - eventually securing a highly-deserving top 10 finish.

As for this weekend, the Matt Stone Racing duo will be hoping for a far less dramatic race when they arrive at the iconic Mount Panorama circuit, with a podium their overall goal.

The Repco Supercars Championship heads to the famous Mount Panorama Circuit for the Repco Bathurst 1000 on October 10-13.

“I am under the mentality of the more you do this race, the better you are, as experience counts for so much - and while I can’t exactly make up the deficit to the more experienced drivers , I feel more settled heading into Bathurst this year,” said Hill.

“I was very nervous going into last year’s race, and considering everything we faced, we had a good run and I was content with how the day went and the potential we showed.

“I am less nervous this year as we are coming into Bathurst with great momentum and a lot more top 10 showings - including last month’s recovery drive.

“Both Cam and I are feeling positive. Cam found his feet as the race went on with good stints and I was happy with my performance too, so to come out the other side with a good result gives us a settled feeling, which is encouraging.

“Bathurst is one of those races where if you have a good car and make minimal mistakes, there is an opportunity for a great result. We are wanting to put our best foot forward, it would be a dream come true to stand on the Bathurst podium.

“There is so much to love about this event. Every time you get to Bathurst and see those famous words on the side of the mountain, - you get goosebumps. It’s the Holy Grail of our sport, to be racing with a good mate is such a privilege and I am so keen to get there and soak in the atmosphere all week.”
