Repco Bathurst 12 Hour provides critical seat time for Cameron Hill

Ahead of his second Repco Supercars Championship season, Canberran Cameron Hill is set to gain critical extra seat time as he prepares to go once around the clock at Mount Panorama.

The 27-year-old is readying to contest this year's once-around-the-clock marathon in a Matt Stone Racing-entered IRC GT in the Invitational Clas, joined by new team-mate Nick Percat and Trans Am racer John Holinger.

It will be Hill's second attempt at the internationally prestigious event, having been part of Steve Richards Motorsport campaign in 2018, driving a BMW M4 GT4.

The IRC GT will compete against a strong Invitational class headlined by the French Vortex 1.0 and a smattering of similar style models to that of MSR’s entry.

The Hill/Percat/Holiger car will carry major support from Hill’s long-time backer Supaglass.

Impressions of the IRC GT for Hill are good after a test at Queensland Raceway and the key will be building up mileage before the opening round of the Repco Supercars Championship next week, also at Mount Panorama that will comprise of twin 250km events.

Before then, the Repco Bathurst 12 Hour beckons this weekend on February 16-18, kicking off today with the popular 'Track to Town' festival in the main street of Bathurst.

“I’ve always loved the Bathurst 12 Hour race,” said Hill.

“Just trying to last the distance while also managing different class speeds is an exciting challenge. It’s a really cool race run at a very high level nowadays with factory teams coming over to race.

“But for us, we saw it is an important part of our Supercars program to enter and get the miles around Bathurst. It’s not something we’d regularly do, but the fact there is a round of our championship one week later, we thought it was at a disadvantage if we weren’t doing it.

“It’s bonus seat time, but of course, we'll be aiming to win our class and do the best we can, however the focus is just getting quality miles around a track that you don't get to race on everyday.

“The car itself is a great package. It’s very user friendly, you jump in and everything makes sense. There are driver aids such as traction control and ABS, so you can make it easier or harder to drive, but for when Nick or I are in, all the settings will be quite low to keep it raw for our purposes.

“Overall, it’s fun to drive and it sets some fast times as well.”
