Cameron Hill charges through the Supercars pack in Townsville

Cameron Hill’s impressive run of form in the Repco Supercars Championship has continued in Townsville after scoring a pair of top 10 finishes at the Reid Park street circuit.

The only Canberra-based driver in the Supercars field enjoyed two remarkable performances that saw him finish 10th and ninth respectively,

Relative to qualifying positions, Hill claimed the accolade of gaining the most positions across the weekend.

With Personalised Plates Queensland throwing its support behind the Matt Stone Racing Camaro entry, the round began in frustrating fashion, with steering rack issues during Practice 1. The mechanical gremlin meant that he completed just three laps for the session before experiencing balance issues in Practice 2.

Hill qualified 19th for Saturday's first race, and things went from bad to worse early when he was turned around on the first lap.

The defiant Hill recovered brilliantly, picking off cars one-by-one and eventually crossing the line in 10th place.

Sunday morning’s qualifying proved a carbon copy of Saturday’s session, with Hill again missing the mark and ending up 19th.

And just like he did on Saturday, Hill navigated his way through the field with a good strategy and hard racing, making up 10 places in the process and completing what was a stunning weekend for the second-year driver.

Hill will look to continue building on his current form at his home event later this month, with the Panasonic Air Conditioning Sydney SuperNight taking place at Sydney Motorsport Park on July 19-21.

"We actually had a really great weekend in Townsville and we were really consistent," said Hill.

"Qualifying 19th both days wasn't what we were after, but we had two really good races, moving from 19th to 10th on Saturday and to ninth on Sunday, so we had a great race car.

"There is a bit of work for us to do in qualifying, but a big thanks to Matt Stone Racing for the great car and PPQ for jumping on board. The car looked great, and it was fast out there.

"We have a really short turnaround before we go to Sydney in two weeks' time. It's a big event for me and it's my home event as it's only a couple hours up the road from Canberra.

"We're going to have heaps of support there, which is going to be really cool. So keen to get down there to Sydney under lights and give it a red hot crack."
