HILL EXTENDS STREET CIRCUIT DOMINATION

Cameron Hill’s dominant run of street circuit performances has continued at the Coates Hire Newcastle 500 today, the Canberra driver storming to a pair of comprehensive victories in the two Toyota 86 Series races.

Following his fifth-straight pole position yesterday, Hill led every lap of both races aboard his usedtrucks.sydney/National Capital Toyota/Anytime Fitness Toyota 86, establishing handy margins over his rivals.

Safety Car interventions in both races saw Hill’s lead diminished, but he still managed to open up breathing space after the restarts.

Hill said he was able to translate his strong qualifying pace into consistent speed over the two 11-lap events.

“We had good pace over one lap yesterday, and as it turned out we had a good car over a race distance as well,” Hill said.

“In the first race I made a good start but in the second race, Steve Owen challenged me into the first corner and I had to work hard to hold onto the lead.

“The Safety Cars kept me under pressure and I had to ensure I nailed my reaction at the restarts.

“I really enjoy street circuits, especially attacking the kerbs, but here in Newcastle there are sections where you have to flow the car as well.

“Today has been an excellent day, so hopefully we can finish off a perfect weekend tomorrow,” Hill concluded.

The final race of the 2017 Toyota 86 Racing Series will be held at 9:30 tomorrow morning.
