An unfortunate collision and subsequent steering damage has prematurely ended Cameron Hill’s campaign in the opening Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup Australia race at Mount Panorama today.

Starting fifth on the grid, Hill made a strong start and was applying the pressure to fourth-placed Nick McBride before the duo made contact on the run into Griffin’s Bend, breaking Hill’s steering.

“I was on the outside of Nick McBride, and he changed his line in the braking zone, leaving me with nowhere to go,” Hill said.

“The incident is under investigation, but we can’t change the fact that I didn’t finish the race.

“It’s disappointing, because our car was fast today and we definitely could have challenged for a top-three result, but I’ll look forward to charging through the field tomorrow.”

Race 2 for Carrera Cup will be held tomorrow at 1:55pm.
