Cameron Hill has captured the attention of fans at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, with a stunning charge from the rear of the field to 10th in today’s second race for Porsche Carrera Cup Australia.
Hill made clean, incisive passes on his opponents as he worked his way through the field, overtaking 11 cars in nine laps.
“I thoroughly enjoyed passing all those cars, and having a strong package definitely made my life easier,” Hill said.
“I was conservative at the start, because I couldn’t see the signal lights and didn’t want to be penalised for moving before the red lights went out.
“After that, I was patient but I also made the most of passing opportunities as they appeared. I have to give full credit to the Pro-Am Class drivers, because they showed a lot of respect and provided room for me to overtake cleanly.”
Hill will start 10th for tomorrow morning’s third and final race, which will be held as the curtain-raiser for the Bathurst 1000.
“It was important for me to make up as many places as possible today, to put myself in a position to attack tomorrow,” Hill said.
“I feel like we have some performance left in reserve for Race 3, so I’m looking forward to having some fun and making up some more places.”
The third and final Carrera Cup race will be held at 10:05 tomorrow morning.
