Cameron Hill says the fun factor is off the scale after finishing fourth in his Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 Series comeback race at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 today.
The smile could not be wiped off the Canberra driver’s face after an intense seven-lap race in which he fought for the podium.
"Today was awesome, it was so much fun to be in a close battle with other cars for the whole race," Hill said.
“At one stage, I thought I might have been able to finish third, but I missed a gear going up Mountain Straight which cost me a position.
“After a few seasons racing a Porsche with paddle-shift, I need to remember how to use a H-pattern gearbox again!” he joked.
While Hill is having fun on the track, he said he is gaining just as much satisfaction through his off-track role as a Toyota Gazoo Racing representative.
“I’ve always enjoyed the driver development side of things with our family team’s Formula Ford program, and this weekend I’ve been spending time with some other Toyota 86 drivers, going through my data and in-car footage with them,” he explained.
“It’s very satisfying to see them applying what they’ve learned and improving their lap times accordingly.”
The next two Toyota 86 Series races will be held at 12:50 and 3:20 tomorrow afternoon.
