Cameron Hill has fought his way onto the podium in the Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 Series Bathurst Cup at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 today, finishing second in Race 3 this afternoon.
Starting fourth in Race 2 this morning, Hill briefly elevated his Toyota Gazoo Racing 86 into third position at the start but was overtaken on the run up to the Cutting and settled for a fourth-place finish.
In Race 3, Hill made a strong start and was able to gain two spots within the first two corners of the race, moving up to second place and holding the position through to the chequered flag, despite dealing from some pressure from behind after a mid-race Safety Car restart.
Hill said his confidence in the car has improved from yesterday.
“I’m feeling a lot more in sync with the car today; yesterday, there were some corners where I was over-driving and losing some time, especially coming onto Mountain Straight and Con-rod Straight,” Hill said.
“I tidied up some aspects of my technique and improved today, especially in the third race.
“Like yesterday, the races were enjoyable and the quality of driving was impressive – the racing was hard but clean.
“There’s a chance we’ll have some rain tomorrow so I’m looking forward to that challenge – I never did a Toyota 86 race in the wet, so it will be a new experience,” Hill concluded.
The fourth and final race of the weekend will be held at 9:00 tomorrow morning.
