Cameron Hill says his Porsche Carrera Cup race car is “right in the window” after recording strong results in the first two official practice sessions of the season at the Superloop Adelaide 500 today.
Hill occupied the coveted number one spot in the opening 20-minute encounter, and was fifth-fastest in the second session, despite electing not to use new tyres.
While he was pleased with his lap times, the Canberra driver admitted to having a lucky escape at one stage.
“I had a big moment at Turn 7, and just managed to avoid the wall!” Hill said.
“Other than that, it was a very positive day. As soon as I drove out of the pits for the first practice session, I could tell the car was strong and it responded well to the small adjustments we made between sessions.
“Topping the first session of the year is always nice, and to still be in the top five in the second session, even though we were using old tyres, is encouraging.”
Hill is expecting fierce competition heading into tomorrow.
“Knowing I have a strong car gives me confidence, but I’ll really have to be on my A-game in qualifying and the races – it’s a very high-quality Carrera Cup field this year,” he said.
Qualifying will be held at 11:10am (11:40am Eastern Time) tomorrow, with Race 1 at 3:40pm (4:10pm Eastern Time).
