Carrera Cup points leader Cameron Hill says he cannot wait to return to the racetrack, following the announcement from Porsche Motorsport Australia that the 2021 series will conclude with a trio of rounds in December.
After being in a state of suspension since July, the Porsche season is scheduled to resume as a support category for the Bathurst 1000 on 30 November-5 December, before wrapping up with a double-header round at The Bend Motorsport Park as part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships on 10-12 December.
The events are subject to border restrictions, with the need for South Australia to open to New South Wales for the double header at Tailem Bend to proceed. Hill is optimistic the events will go ahead, and is looking forward to racing at two venues that have seen him achieve success in the past.
“Mount Panorama is an amazing track to race at, and it is where I scored my first Carrera Cup podium finish in 2018,” Hill said.
“The Bend was a happy hunting ground earlier this year –we achieved our first Carrera Cup clean sweep and we had a car that performed well in both wet and dry conditions. It’s a confidence-booster heading back to a track where we’ve got form on the board.”
Hill explained the points system has been tweaked to make allowances for competitors who have been affected by COVID restrictions.
“Everyone now drops their worst round, so drivers who have had to miss a round due to COVID aren’t disadvantaged,” Hill said.
“All of our rounds have been strong so far, even with the drop round we have an 80-point lead. It will still be important to have front-running results, we don’t want to rely on a drop points scenario to keep our lead.”
