The championship hopes for current series leader Cameron Hill continue to increase with Hill registering second in round four of the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup.
After placing second in the opening race, Hill picked up another second place finish yesterday which was all that made up round four of the season in a four race double round event. The result secures another increase to his championship lead, bringing him 113 points clear of his nearest competitor.
Hill started strongly in today’s race with a quick start giving him an opportunity up Mountain Straight. After being forced on to the grass, Hill elected to back out and preserve his car which has been a key component to his championship run. It looked as though another opportunity to take the lead may present itself however two back to back Safety Cars prevented a race winning move. In the end, Hill cruised across the line under the Safety Car and on to the second step of the podium.
“Great couple of races for us, second overall for the round and still leading the championship so it’s all we can ask for,” said Hill.
“Bit of a shame to have so much time under the Safety Car, I would have liked to have a crack at the lead but that’s alright. We get to stay at the pointy end of the grid tomorrow to start round five so fingers crossed we can keep performing well.”
“We’re just going about our business and doing what we always do, ensuring nothing is missed and whatever happens in the Championship, will happen,” Hill concluded.
Races three and four of the week will be contested as round five of the season. The grid for race three is set based of the second fastest laps from each driver in qualifying, Hill will start from third. Race three will commence at 3:00pm AEDT before race four raises the curtain for the Repco Bathurst 1000 on Sunday.
