Even with 24 hours between races, Cameron Hill continued his purple patch of form with a third podium in as many races at Mount Panorama in the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup.
Hill was dislodged at the start from his third place starting spot, falling back to fourth in what became a train of cars racing for the lead. The 15 lap affair, the longest of the week, was characterised by the close run nature of the leading quartet. With a points lead in excess of 100 points, Hill was reserved in his aggression as he watched the three cars in front duck and dive amongst each other.
The CHE Racing driver was rewarded for his methods when David Wall from the leading trio was forced to pit at the beginning of the last lap with a tyre failure. Hill picked up third place, all but maintaining his points lead with one round to go after tomorrow’s Bathurst finale.
“We’re continuing to do exactly what we need, and that’s all that matters,” said Hill.
“The race today was pretty intense from in the car. It felt like we were all being held up a bit so it bunched us up and they were racing pretty hard in front of me.”
“Big congratulations to Harri (Jones) on sealing his first race win, I’m sure there’ll be plenty more for him,” Hill concluded.
The Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup will continue tomorrow with race four of the week, acting as the final support act before the Bathurst 1000.
