CHE Racing Driver Cameron Hill has capped off an incredible year by claiming the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup title.
Hill ends the year with six wins and 11 podiums from 13 races, anchored by his ability to qualify inside the top three all year long, with third place his worst qualifying position of the year.
In his debut year in the series in 2018, Hill finished ninth in the Championship. 2019 was the breakout year for Hill, picking up his first pole position and race win through the year on his way to sixth in the championship.
2020 was anticipated to be the year Hill challenged for the title, however the Covid-induced cancellation after one and a half rounds curtailed that idea, Hill winning the last race of the shortened season at the ill-fated Australian Grand Prix.
2021 began with a runner-up finish in the opening race of the year before Hill embarked on a storming streak of six race wins in a row. Hill entered the final week of the year, a double round at Mount Panorama, with an 80-point lead in the points standings.
Hill finished on the podium in the first three races of the event, extending his advantage to more than 110 points. In the final race of the year, Hill only needed to finish and he did just that after nursing a delaminated tyre back to pits mid-race and cruising to the chequered flag.
“It hasn’t sunk in yet, this has been a four-year journey that started back in 2018 and it’s a bit surreal at the moment,” said Hill.
“We’ve prided ourselves on our consistency this year, and I believe that was the key to our championship. We started off strong and we didn’t ever slow down.
“I have such an amazing team behind me and so many people to thank. A huge mention has to go to my engineer Dejan Ninic. We have worked very closely together over the past three years to develop a winning package, and his guidance really helped me maximise my driving.
“I also need to thank Mum and Dad who poured so much of their blood, sweat and tears into this, along with our performance manager Ben Gathercole, whose mentorship and work behind the scenes turned us into a winning team.
“Also, a massive thank you to all of our awesome mechanics who joined us for the ride and of course my partner Emily for supporting me all the way.
“To do this with our own little family team is just amazing. We’re a single car operation, we’ve had to do it all ourselves and work it out as we go. On that note, we also have to thank GWR Australia who we have shared a technical alliance with. They were a big part of helping our team reach the next level.
“It’s surreal to finish my time in Carrera Cup by winning the title. Next year I’m lining up in Super 2 with Triple Eight Race Engineering, I can’t wait.” Hill concluded.
