Cameron Hill has confirmed that he will make the step into the top leagues of Australian motorsport – the Repco Supercars Championship – in 2023.
The Canberra resident will join emerging Supercars squad Matt Stone Racing in one of its two Chevrolet Camaro entries next year, driving alongside Jack Le Brocq.
The 25-year-old’s rise to the top level of Australian motorsport has never seen him far from the front of the field, regardless of what class he has competed in.
Hill started karting at the age of nine, winning numerous state championships in his junior years. In 2012, Hill won the National Pro Junior (KF3) Australian Championship.
He progressed to the junior open wheel class Formula Ford in 2014, driving a privately-run entry and ultimately winning the prestigious Australian Formula Ford Championship in 2015, including an astonishing 12 race wins during his title season.
The popular Toyota 86 Racing Series was next on his rise to the top, scoring third and second place overall in the 2016 and 2017 titles respectively.
Australia’s premier one make class, Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, was next. It culminated in a convincing title win in 2021.
In 2022, Hill has enjoyed an outstanding year, winning the Bathurst 6 Hour event for production cars in April, and currently sits a close fourth with one round to go in his debut season in the Dunlop Super2 Series.
Hill also made his debut in the Repco Bathurst 1000 this year, driving for Premiair Racing alongside Chris Pither.
Next year will see Hill become the first Canberra-based Supercars driver since Dale Brede’s one full-time season back in 2004.
While the Australian Capital Territory is best known for producing nine-times Grand Prix winner Mark Webber, Hill’s appointment at Matt Stone Racing heralds Canberra’s best chance at success in the Supercars Championship.
The 2023 season will see a new generation of cars hit the track in Australia’s most popular form of motorsport, with the ‘Gen3’ regulations coming into effect. The new look cars will represent heroic muscle cars like the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang.
The opening round of the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will be held at the Newcastle street track on March 4-6.
