Triple Eight Race Engineering’s new Super2 signing Cameron Hill is excited to climb another step up the Australian motorsport ladder as he embarks on his maiden season in the second-tier series.
Just one step away from the Repco Supercars Championship, Hill will commence his rookie season of Dunlop Super2 at Sydney Motorsport Park, driving the #111 Supaglass Industries Holden VF Commodore this weekend.
Following a dominant season in Porsche Carrera Cup Australia in 2021 where he achieved six victories and 11 podiums from a 13-race season, Hill enters his first race weekend in Super2 as prepared as can be after a successful test at Queensland Raceway two weeks ago.
“I’m pumped for my first-ever race in a Supercar,” Hill said.
“Obviously, it’s something new for me having raced Carrera Cup for the last few years, Super2 runs to slightly different race formats, so it will be good to learn from the Triple Eight team about how it’s done.”
Two 18-lap encounters await Hill, but a strong pre-event shakedown has provided confidence heading to Sydney.
“Testing went really well,” Hill said.
“We had a couple of days up at Queensland Raceway, I get a couple extra because I’m a rookie this year so we certainly tried to maximise those and I’m feeling really comfortable in the car.”
Aligning with last year’s Repco Supercars Championship and Super2 Series winners Triple Eight Race Engineering, Hill is keeping his aims measured ahead of his first season.
“In terms of goals and expectations, I want to do the best I can, ideally for race wins and long-term the series title,” Hill explained.
“We’ll know very quickly where we stand when we roll out on Friday and after that we’ll just take it as it comes.”
Hill’s campaign in the #111 Supaglass Industries VF Commodore gets underway with Friday practice at 1:05pm AEDT.
