Eyes forward for Cameron Hill after bruising Sandown

It was a chaotic round of Dunlop Super2 at Sandown for Cameron Hill and the Supaglass Industries Commodore entry this weekend.

Tricky and treacherous conditions opened the weekend, which hampered qualifying as red flags interrupted the session on Saturday ahead of the opening race.

Hill was stung significantly in the messy session, eventually qualifying eighth despite showing top three speed.

Progress was made early during the opening race, but contact with Jay Hanson at Turn 4 on the second lap spun the Supaglass Industries Commodore and dropped Hill to the back of the field.

A spirited charge enabled Hill to finish 14th as he was forced to negotiate the slower Super3 entries.

Demonstrating the speed of the Supaglass Commodore, Hill qualified third for the second and final event of the weekend, but a slow start saw him sixth entering Turn 1.

Chaos surrounded Hill as he avoided incidents and also ventured off track as the circuit conditions continued to worsen.

Avoiding a multiple car pile up at the conclusion of Race 2, Hill finished in 11th to leave Sandown fourth in the series ahead of the annual trip to Mount Panorama.

Hill will complete double duties at Bathurst as he continues his Dunlop Super2 Series campaign with Triple Eight Race Engineering and debuts in the Repco Bathurst 1000 with the experienced Chris Pither in the Coca Cola PremiAir Racing ZB Commodore.

“Probably a weekend to forget for us,” said Hill.

“We qualified really strongly on Sunday with third, but a poor start again cost me track position. Then I got hung out to dry, dodged accidents, went across the grass, but we survived. We finished the race, but it was not the result we were hoping for.

“We’ll come back at Bathurst and hopefully get the car back to where it belongs.

“I’m still fourth in the series standings and as we’ve seen almost anything can happen in Super2 racing. Two rounds to go, the goal is to still push for the title and we’ll give it our best shot.

“I'm very excited to be doing double duty at the Bathurst 1000. It will be a massive weekend sharing the Coca Cola PremiAir Racing ZB Commodore with Chris Pither and also racing the Supaglass Industries Super2 Commodore. I’m looking forward to the challenge and hope we get strong results in both."
