CAM'S SYDNEY MOTORSPORT PARK WRAP

That's a wrap on the opening round of the Supercars season, which was a mixed weekend across the board but positive overall.

There was a lot of anticipation heading into the Sydney 500, and it’s fair to say we were pretty excited to get our third year in the championship underway. And what better way to begin the weekend than with a special media activation involving puppies – honestly, I couldn’t have asked for more.

Before the official action got underway, we managed to visit the good people at the Australian Reinforcing Company McGraths Hill store on Thursday for a BBQ, while also introducing the world to our new helmet. A big thanks to our helmet sponsors – Panasonic Air-conditioning, Panasales Group, Higgins Property Group, E&S, and Level 1 Projects.

Once the business began on Friday, we had a good run in the opening practice session, qualified 12th, before eventually finishing the first race of the year in 13th.

We made it through to the Top 10 Shootout for the first time this year during Saturday’s qualifying. I'm glad I could reward the hard work the team had put in all week to make the car fast. Shootouts are always special!

Unfortunately a 15-second penalty prevented us from securing our first top 10 finish for the year later that day, so we had to settle for 13th again – a good result considering we had to make up lost ground.

Sunday's race was a tough one for us. We got beat up at the start and had the pit stop issue with the fuel churn staying attached.

The team have worked super hard on the pit stops for the last 18 months and this was just one of those unlucky ones, so we won't dwell on it for long.

The big positive is we know we have a fast car, so all focus on having a big weekend at the Australian Grand Prix.

As always, a big thanks to all my sponsors – including Supaglass – for their support!
