Cameron Hill has scored an impressive top 10 finish alongside James Abela in today’s Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour, the pair finishing ninth outright out of 64 cars in the Horsley Park Gun Shop Subaru WRX.
Hill and Abela stayed on the lead lap for most of the race, running as high as third at one point, and it was only during their final pit stop that they fell a lap down.
Hill was very satisfied with the result in his first endurance race at Mount Panorama.
“We knew this weekend that our car didn’t have the straight-line speed of some of the other cars, but we were very quick over the top, and we were able to maintain a consistent enough pace to keep the leaders well within range for most of the day,” Hill said.
“James drove exceptionally well and the team did a brilliant job with strategy; unfortunately our final pit stop was just a fraction too early, but we had no choice as we were out of fuel at that point. If we had been able to stay on the lead lap we could have achieved an even better result, but we’re still thrilled with the outcome.”
After some technical problems in testing, Hill said the WRX ran flawlessly all weekend.
“We had some glitches with the car during our pre-event preparations, and it’s a credit to the whole team that they were able to solve the issues – the car didn’t skip a beat all day,” Hill said.
“I’m looking forward to being back in the car with James for some other rounds of the Australian Production Car Series, at circuits that better suit the car.”
Hill is now looking forward to the opening round of the Toyota 86 Series next weekend.
“It’s a very short turnaround for us, but I can’t wait to race the Toyota 86 at Phillip Island next weekend,” Hill said.
